Do we have to own it in order to call it one of our favorites?
I can't afford anything nice .

No, I own none of the ones I picked. I am in the same situation.

Not bad, but all way too busy for my taste.

I would never wear one, but an Omega Speedmaster is the tits.
![]() 08/20/2014 at 18:19 |

I've got a Navitimer. Pretty much the only nice thing I own. I justify it by reminding myself that it is the only thing I wear every day and have worn every day for the last 15 or so.

As a pilot, I really like the vintage aeronautical feel of most Breitling watches so I don't find them too busy at all.
Those you linked are pretty damn cool though.

My Omega Speedmaster Mk4
Patek Nautilus
Tudor Submariner "Snowflake"

I always liked the Omega Speedmaster.
I like diving/military watches the best. The Zodiac Seawolf and Rolex Submariner are my favorite diving watches.

It was money well spent then, if you've been wearing it this long.

i have a regular, nothing fancy Citizen at home that need to put a battery on and start wearing

Omegas are so damn classy. I am properly jelly.

I <3 minimalism. Second hand, minute hand, hour hand, and the date. That's all I need. Keep the rest nice and plain and I'll be a happy camper.

I have a Kenneth Cole skeleton watch which looks way fancier than its $50 price tag would suggest, lol.

This has been my workhorse for a couple of years now (I'm on the third leather armband). It's precise and VERY easy to read, which are my main priorities.
As a teacher, I have to exactly know how deep I am into a 45 minute lesson. Can I let this discussion go on or do I have to move on to the next point? Or do I have to drag out this discussion... ? Stuff like that. I would look a fool if I were to obviously look at my watch. "Yeah, he wants to get away ASAP as well as us!" So this simple design without any detractions is perfect.
It's an inverted copy of the clocks at Swiss train stations.

Great minds think alike! Autodromo sure make some damn good looking watches for a relatively low (sub $1k) price relative to some of the ones I posted.

Its a 74 and has some patina on it, I love the thing bc it has many hands.

They're a bit overpriced for what they are, but they are some of the best looking watches on sale today! I was lucky enough to get a Veloce for Christmas a couple years ago, and it's the centerpiece of my (admittedly small) collection.

I could spend a long while just looking at it.

Ok, wow I didn't know that existed. I admit it is an amazingly cool piece of engineering, BUT you have to admit that anyone who pulls that out of there pocket will either be arrested on suspicion of terrorism or just thought to be incredibly pompous (I can't think of a good word) by everyone at the dinner club.

Right now I'm pretty infatuated with my new Sistem 51 but My dream watch is a 1962 Rolex Submariner with a tanzanite dial and a nato band just like what connery wore in the first bond movie

I like a lot of watches, but I'd never want to own a watch I would be afraid to wear anywhere. For that reason I like mkii kingston for a beautiful dive watch that isn't overly priced.
That, right now isn't something I can justify buying (plus I think it was a limited release), so I will stick with my Seiko 5 and switch out straps to spice things up. It functions well, durable enough, looks good, and it's 21 jewel movement is as accurate as swiss made watches.

I'll bite! Try this one -> http://www.amazon.com/Traser-H3-P650…
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I've owned one of these for about 4-5 years now. It uses tritium for illumination and hasn't dimmed a bit that I can tell - it's actually a little bright sometimes. It's titanium with an sapphire crystal glass. Despite getting beat up pretty good from 24X7 wear (I shower with it and swim) it shows not a single scratch except on the clasp for the band which I think might be stainless. I've gone through two batteries in that time period and I've replaced them myself despite Traser not liking that but I refuse to ship a watch for something so silly. It's not the most expensive watch by far but it's help up VERY well to my abuse. I also have a titanium Mickey Mouse watch that looks awesome! Unfortunately I've had to replace it's guts 2x, it lost time, and the glass was more vulnerable than this one - it was also not weatherproof. The Traser keeps damn near perfect time BTW and the only maintenance save batteries is my having to adjust the calendar since it doesn't track month\year and is off a day occasionally.
Oh, ti for it's weight and ruggedness, tritium for never dimming, waterproof so I have no worries, small and not bigger than my wrist so it doesn't look silly.

That one looks great!
![]() 08/20/2014 at 19:36 |

Ha, and now you have me looking on Amazon to see if Traser has released any others I might like :-) I see a limited edition black one in Ti but I'm nervous that the black might scratch. I'm pretty spoiled about how this one has held up, it gets smacked on steel door frames near daily!

This was the favorite in my collection, but it only really worked for like the first 6 months I had it, now it sits in the box because the one company in Germany I can find that refurbishes them won't return my emails.

Color me jelly, that's quite the collection. I just have a couple of Kenneth Cole's and a 1982 Rolex Datejust I inherited from my grandfather.
![]() 08/21/2014 at 16:51 |

Don't knock the Datejust ... just make sure you find a great horologist and have him do the maint every couple of years lube and seals
![]() 08/21/2014 at 17:33 |

I'm not knocking it, I rarely wear it because I don't want to get it scuffed up and seldom find an occasion were I have to dress up.
It's one of my most prized possessions.
![]() 08/21/2014 at 17:58 |

I'm all about the inexpensive but functional. I also hate oversized, heavy designs. I will probably never own a watch that costs more than my Alfa.
The Seiko 5 is a solid, everyday automatic watch. Cheap, too.
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
I also like Orient .
Honestly though, I usually wear a plain old Citizen eco-drive. Cost a couple hundred but keeps good time for a quartz, and the solar power has been flawless.
Trying to convince my wife a nice watch for our 5th anniversary in a few months is a good idea.

Of course.
![]() 08/21/2014 at 18:23 |

That Seiko looks really nice and so does the Citizen, of course.
What model of Orient is that? I can't find it on the site. It looks amazing!
![]() 08/21/2014 at 23:25 |
|
I own one of those Seiko 5 Military watches. Wore it just about every day for most of college (a very long time, in my case). Swapped the band for one with black leather and white stitching, then did it 3 more times whenever my South Florida-Class sweat made it literally rot.
It never kept great time, but what can you really expect from a $50 mechanical watch? One of the few that looks appropriate on my micro-wrists. My new watch is almost too much:
![]() 08/22/2014 at 10:08 |
|
I really thought Orient watches were not so ginormous. Japanese designs tend to skew small, which I prefer. I have the feeling of my arm being tethered to something the approximate mass of a white dwarf. Which is also why I like titanium. Yeah. Great. Those are inexpensive.
![]() 08/22/2014 at 12:19 |
|
Yeah. A pocket watch that big does kinda scream "Look at me!" There are some other videos out there that show the movement in much better detail. The engineering that went into this is amazing.
![]() 08/22/2014 at 12:22 |
|
Totally understandable. But on the bright side, If I'm ever in a position to afford any of those, I'd have an Oppo Skeleton commissioned just for us Opponauts.

Y U MAKE ME WANNA SPEND MONIES!?! I would totally buy that
![]() 08/22/2014 at 18:34 |

At 40mm, the watch isn't so much ginormous as my wrist is just narrow...

Ok, "technically" you are right. But, its still in the style of a NATO and would be easier to find a nato today.

no judgement here, whatever makes you happy, do it! :)
Just wanted you to have the real info in case that has an influence on your purchase.
I wear all different types of time pieces myself. Today I have on one of my favorites and it's "just" a wenger swiss military chrono. Tomorrow I may wear my blue Tag Monaco (identical to the one pictured above). It's all about what you like. Cheers!

Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT Master reference number 1675
Not my hand nor my picture. But it is a classic pilot's watch made for Pan Am pilot-navigators (pilots took turn navigating commuter jets by sextant, mounted on the ceiling, in the 1950s, so GMT time was important) by Rolex. You set it to GMT/UTC for the main 12 hour (the red 24 hour hand follows) and then set a second time zone (local or home time) by rotating the bezel. So this watch indicates UTC is roughly 2 minutes till 1100, and local time is about 2 minutes till 0500.
The 1675 is the first update (2nd GMT from Rolex), so it's like the E36 M3 of GMTs, underrated in price because it's "cheap" in comparison to all the other GMTs. And it still starts at about 4k-6k USD.
This one has no independent GMT hand (GMT Master II has this)
No quickset date (the Master 1 after the 1675 has this)
An acrylic crystal for the dial, and the bezel is anodized aluminum (which is why the colour is fading, and looks scratched up).
But I digress, I'm actually saving up for a Steinhart GMT, better value at under 550 with a Swiss movement.
Oh, and I really like the Navitimer and the 24 hour version (the Cosmonaute), but the watch face is so busy with the slide-rule (I'd rather have a full sized E6B) and a hand-wound chronograph... too much maintenance fees/trouble for me to wear on the daily.
